The point of zero is a place for ideas that sit outside our day to day projects – explorations, whims and obsessions that will have an output here and in the physical world.
We work together with other creative folk to make something interesting to share, inspired by what’s around us.

The inspiration
The Powers of Ten
The Powers of Ten films are two short American documentary films written and directed by Charles and Ray Eames. Both works depict the relative scale of the universe according to an order of magnitude based on a factor of ten, first expanding out from the Earth until the entire universe is surveyed, then reducing inward until a single atom and its quarks are observed. The first film was a prototype completed in 1968. The final film was completed in 1977. We are inspired by this work as a way of seeing and presenting information.

The Bauhaus
The tenets of the Bauhaus were wonderfully expressed by Anni Albers. When her words were displayed in her 2019 exhibition at Tate Modern, they resonated, they inspired.
‘I tried to put my students at the point of zero. I tried to have them imagine, let’s say, that they are in a desert in Peru, no clothing, no nothing … so what do you do? You wear the skin of some kind of animal maybe to protect yourself from too much sun or maybe the wind occasionally. And you want a roof over something and so on. And how do you gradually come to realise what a textile can be? And we start at that point.’
